Launch 48 Birmingham

A great opportunity to learn a lot of skills and also a chance to see a project come to life over a couple of days. I used to be a part of events like these in my previous career and they can be extremely rewarding not just for yourself but to others who you can join forces with to solve a problem.

The website for Launch 48 has some videos that explain the idea behind the events and how you can be a part of them. The costs are always quite reasonable as the assistance gained on these events is invaluable. Its always hard to get a start up idea up and running and you waste so much time seeking out information and trying to talk to the people who matter.

Even if you don't want to attend the event its worth watching the videos on the site as it still gives you a valuable insight.

Another great event to be a part of is the 4AM Project which is basically a chance to get out at 4am in the morning and take some photographs of somewhere special or somewhere that could provide you with some inspirational shots.

I attended an event a while ago held at the Birmingham Library which was fantastic. We were allowed into rooms that the public isn't allowed to go normally. The best part was being allowed access to the roof space which has amazing views over the city.

You can see some of my pictures on Flickr as well as a shot of the Art Gallery clock to prove that it was 4am and I was very tired! There is another event happening in a couple of weeks but the venue hasn't quite been finalised. If anyone is interested I can give you the details of the lady who organises it and I cannot recommend it enough. It's normally on a Sunday evening and there is usually a coffee shop in the city centre that opens up early for us to get that much needed cup of coffee and bacon sandwich.
